Dear Trailblazer Families and Community,

Shaw Road activities and events are going strong this month!  We had a very successful, "Snuggle Up and Read Night," on the 1st.  Family movie night is on the 9th, and our STEM Fair Night is on the 26th.  We hope you can join us.  One way we are honoring Black History Month is through African Mask study with our Art Docents.  We also have an African Dance Group coming to perform for students on the 16th.  Thanks to Shaw Road PTA and volunteers for providing so many opportunities to the Trailblazer community!

There is a Special Election on February 13th.  The Puyallup School Board has unanimously agreed to place an Educational Programs and Operations Replacement Levy on this Special Election ballot.  This would not be a new tax for voters, rather continuing support for existing educational programs and day-to-day operations in all district schools.
The current levy represents 19 percent of the district’s operating budget for the 2017-18 school year and will expire in 2018.The estimated annual tax rate to homeowners would be $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. This is based on current state law and future projected property values.
If approved, the rate for the replacement levy will be $1.98 less per $1,000 of assessed valuation than the 2018 levy rate.  Levy dollars are not used to build new schools or for capital projects. They are part of the district’s operating budget. The levy supports educational programs; day-to-day operations; maintains basic health, safety, and security; and on-going facility maintenance of Puyallup schools.

Thank you for your continued teamwork and support of the Shaw Road Community.
Please remember to vote!
